My new shoes.

I got a package in the mail the other day, and in it was the coolest pair of shoes I had ever seen! These shoes had lots of Mommy's and my favorite things on them, like Mickey Mouse, the color red, and camouflage. Plus, they were REAL CROCS! That's Mommy's favorite kind of shoes, and they are the only ones she'll wear to work ever! (Thanks Katie for getting Mommy hooked on these and for buying her first pair!)

Mommy let me try them on, and I wouldn't take them off. I wore them all day! I even fell asleep with them on, becuase I loved them so much. I'm pretty sure they are the best shoes ever made.

The steroids made me do it...

The doctor told Mommy that the steroids she was prescribing might make me active, irritable and hungry. They did, too. I gave myself this black eye by trying to get into the refrigerator to get myself some cheese. I love cheese, and I really wanted some, so when Mommy opened the fridge door, I ran over to it yelling "Sheeze! Sheeze!" and bumped into the door so hard it bounced closed on my head. Good grief. What does a kid have to do to get fed around this place?
I also decided to help Mommy rearrange the furniture. I moved the table from the foyer into the living room, I moved the dining room chairs into the kitchen, etc. Mommy must not have appreciated it very much though. She moved them all back after I went to bed... Speaking of going to bed, Mommy left me alone for a minute, and I made myself a cozy spot in front of the window to take a nap. Sometimes you just have to make good things happen for yourself, Mommy says.

I got sick and had to go to the hospital.

On Sunday, I still felt really bad, so Mommy and Daddy took me to the ER. The doctor there took some x-rays of my chest, and decided that I maybe had pneumonia. So they started an IV, which I didn't like very much, and then the doctor decided that maybe I should spend the night in the hospital, which I didn't really like very much, either. After a couple of hours they moved me upstairs to my own room, which was some better, but I would have still rather been at home.
Mommy called my crib a cage, and it really did look like one, too. I learned a new word from one of the nurses - Mean! - and then every time a nurse or resp tech would come in the room, I would yell "Mean!" and try to hit her with my cast. They put a soft cast over the arm that had the IV in it so I couldn't pull it out, which didn't really seem fair to me. I'm pretty sure I could have taken it out if it hadn't been for the cast. Mommy and Daddy stayed with me the whole time I was there, so I didn't have a chance to be afraid, but I didn't get much sleep. Every time I fell asleep, a nurse would come in and wake me up. I finally got to go home late on Monday night, after the antibiotics and steroids had a chance to kick in. I was pretty happy to get to go home, and I don't plan to get sick again any time soon, because being in the hospital just plain SUCKS!

Daddy's Laptop

Daddy ALWAYS remembers to put his laptop away when he's done with it, but yesterday he was distracted because I wasn't feeling well, and he forgot and left it on the coffee table. I think he thought that I wouldn't feel like getting up to play with it, but he was wrong.

Mommy always says "There's no great loss without some small gain," but I've never really known what that meant. (Mommy says a lot of stuff that Daddy and I don't understand.) But now I've got it figured out. It means that whenever you're sick, like I am, you get to do stuff that Mommy and Daddy don't normally let you do. Here's a couple of pictures to prove it. Daddy even let me log in and blog for a while, all on his laptop!

I don't feel very good...

I didn't feel very good yesterday. I had a little cough for a couple of days, but on Friday night, I started feeling pretty bad. When I got up on Saturday morning, I had a fever, too, so Mommy and Daddy decided to take me to the doctor. The doctor said it was maybe Bronchitis, and she gave me a breathing treatment, and three different kinds of medicine. Yuck! I don't like the medicine very much, and sometimes, it makes me throw up.

Even though I felt bad all day on Satuday, some good came out of it. Mommy stayed home from work, and Daddy was here, too, and they held me all day! I got to eat as many popsicles as I wanted, and I got to keep my fifi all day, and Daddy even let me play on his laptop, but that's another story, and I'll post more about THAT later.

Helping Mommy with the Laundry

Yesterday, I helped Mommy with the laundry. Mommy says that we NEVER used to have this much laundry before I was born, so I thought it was only fair that I help her out sometimes. One of the things I do to help is to get all the clean clothes out of the basket and put them in a variety of places around the living room. Mommy tells me all the time what a good helper I am!
Another thing that I do to help Mommy is to try all the clean clothes on. This time, I tried on all these funny looking shirts. They had a place for my head, but only a place for one arm. Mommy called them "underpants" and made me take them off. They just looked like shirts to me, but heck, what do I know? I'm still in diapers.

Me and Daddy and the Airplane

Daddy and I played a new game today. Daddy pushed me down the hallway as fast as he could go while I was sitting on my Mickey plane. Whenever we got close to Mommy, he would give me one big push and let me go. To be nice, I took Blankie for a ride, too. It was really fun. Daddy got sort of tired, though.

One time, Daddy pushed me a little TOO hard and the Mickey plane and I crashed. It's ok, though, Daddy says that any crash you walk away from is a good crash.

All this plane riding was pretty fun, but it did take me away from the activities that I really wanted to do today, like tormenting Cat and eating the occasional wing off a fly. Sometimes, I have to play games with Mommy and Daddy just to keep them happy, but I really enjoyed the airplane ride. Maybe next time we can actually go up in the air!

The Swiffer

Today, Mommy taught me a fun new game. She calls it "Swiffering." I get to move the Swiffer all over the floor and try to catch all the dirt! It's loads of fun. I made sure to get under all the furniture, too.

Mommy says after I practice a whole lot and get really, really good with the Swiffer, that maybe someday she'll teach me how to dust! I can't wait!

Caffeine buzz.

Today Daddy came home from work with a 44 ounce Big Gulp Pepsi Slushy for Mommy. I took exception to the fact that he didn't bring me anything, and decided to keep it for myself.

Daddy tried to distract me to get it back, but it's ok, I was on to him. It's hard to pull one over on the Zakomeister.

This is me after I'd had my fill. Mommy kept muttering something about how I would probably NEVER go to bed, but Daddy was pretty sure I'd crash and burn soon. Daddy was wrong.

If the shoe fits...

These are Daddy's shoes. As soon as he got home from work, I took them and put them on. They're pretty hard to walk in, though...

What a busy day.

This is what I did yesterday while Mommy was cleaning the bathroom.

Daddy bought me this hat at a yard sale.

It's true. He did. I know what you must be thinking, if you know my Daddy. There's no way he would go to a yard sale. But here's what happened. One day when Mommy went to work and I stayed with Daddy all day, we went out for a little while. On the way home, we passed a yard sale that looked like it had lots of good toys, so Daddy stopped there. I picked out the hat all by myself, and together, Daddy and I picked out a set of drums! They are so much fun to bang on. However, Mommy wasn't very happy about the drums, and they had to stay out in the garage for a long time... Daddy finally brought them inside one day when Mommy wasn't looking, and I've been playing with them ever since.

Mommy and the camera.

Mommy takes pictures of me ALL THE TIME! It seems like she never puts the camera down. Sometimes she even catches me and Daddy having a special Daddy/Zackie moment, like here, when I'm trying to bite his nose.

Bathtime!

I love bathtime. Mommy or Daddy always puts me in my big inflatable ducky bath, and I splash and squeal. When it's time to rinse off, I usually try to stand up and spin around in circles, but that makes Mommy nervous, so she makes me sit down. Usually, Mommy or Daddy end up getting as wet as I am!

Swimming (sort of) with Daddy.

One of the things Daddy and I like to do is play in the wading pool on our back deck. It sure feels good on those hot summer days! Daddy is trying to teach me how to float, but for some reason, I mostly sink to the bottom. Oh well, it's still lots of fun!

Learning to feed myself...

One of the things Mommy and Daddy are trying to do now is let me learn how to feed myself. So far, I think it's going pretty well. Sometimes Daddy and I have a standoff over the oatmeal, but usually I do pretty ok. Mommy went out and bought some bowls that have SUCTION CUPS on the bottom so I can't pick them up off my high chair tray and throw them on the floor, which seems unfair, but I know she means well. I can eat pretty much everything with my fingers, but this whole fork and spoon thing is pretty tricky. I can't even imagine what will happen when Daddy tries to teach me to use chopsticks! The picture on the left shows me eating some yummy lo mein that Daddy brought home for me. Mommy said I made a mess with it, but it was delicious!
